Once analyzed the basics of the human resource management (HRM) in the corresponding Degree, this course in international human resource management is intended to facilitate a global perspective of employees´ management. International mobility, expatriates management and future trends in International Human Resource Management are discussed in each chapter. Firstly, we study the background and a comparative analysis between HRM and IHRM is faced. Subsequently, we deal with the HR functions in the context of an international career and expatriates management. Throughout the course the basics of HRM (recruiting, selection, training and development) are permanently present.
RA20. Develop key skills for effective communication and conflict management in international contexts.
RA21. Design the international HR strategy of an organization
RA22. Manage the operational needs of expatriate personnel.
The course is organized around a general introduction to IHRM theory and five units related to the Comparative HRM and the justification for IHRM, the HR functions: recruiting and selection; training and development; rewards and incentives, and the expatriation management.
Power point and other material used will be taken mostly from the textbook website. For each part, there will be assigned readings and practical activities. Active student involvement in the learning process is highly encouraged. In order to participate, students will have to be prepared. It is virtually impossible to do well in this class without devoting a considerable amount of time to reading in advance and solving homework assignments. Regular attendance and active participation are expected. Groups of 2 and 4 students will be organized for some activities.
A MiAulario web course will be available which will contain copies of course materials (the course outline and schedule, lecture power point notes and solutions for some of the cases) and other accounting-related information. You can communicate with the lecturer and your classmates using the communication functions of the web course.
